A 54-year-old man and a female accomplice have been arrested by the Swiss police after he stopped showing up for court hearings in the ongoing trial in which he stands accused of infecting 16 people with HIV, Reuters reports.

The man describes himself as a “healer” through acupuncture, which is how he’s believed to have infected his victims with HIV.

“Swiss police said on Friday that they stormed the home of the 54-year-old man, who had barricaded himself inside, was armed with a knife and had issued repeated threats. An unidentified woman with him was also arrested,” Reuters informs.

The man was arrested last year and his case went to trial shortly afterwards. He’d been on bail since last summer but, as of early March, he stopped showing in court.

His victims were students of his music school, which he ran together with the acupuncture practice. The so-called healer, whose identity has not been revealed to the press, claims he is innocent.
