Unless somebody has figured out a way to make “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” happen in real life (in which case, let us take a moment to praise whatever gods each of us fancies), it looks like a gang of bakery bandits is running rampant in the US.

Long story short, police officers in the city of Portland in Oregon say that, as of recently, locals have been reporting a series of bizarre incidents that boil down to finding sugary treats smeared on their defenseless vehicles, Metro reports.

Information shared with the public says that the folks who are smearing pastries on people's cars have been doing so for about 6 weeks, and appear nothing if not determined to carry on with their work unless caught and forced to embrace another hobby.

Although these so-called bakery bandits have been operating in the city of Portland for nearly 2 months, it looks like authorities only became aware of the fact that such a gang existed on July 11, when a woman contacted them and reported as many as 13 cases of vandalism involving pastries.

Just a few days later, on July 19, one other woman called the police and told them that, when waking up in the morning, she found donuts lying all around her garden. As if this weren't enough, this woman also found a copy of “Twilight” had been thrown on her driveway.

An investigation into these odd occurrences is ongoing. Talking to the press, Lieutenant Mike Rouches of the Hillsboro police said, “In my 25 years in police services, I have never investigated or seen a criminal mischief involving pastries.”

Despite the fact that the people behind these incidents are not smashing windows or using graffiti sprays to decorate people's homes and other buildings, police officers say that their actions still count as vandalism. Hence, they are looking forward to having a prolonged chat with them.

This is yet to be confirmed, but authorities in this part of the US are quite convinced that these bakery bandits are actually a gang of children or teenagers who are merely looking to have some fun abusing pastries and annoying locals. The culprits are believed to choose their targets at random.

Since this gang first started operating in the city of Portland in Oregon, people have found donuts, cakes, and even maple bars on their vehicles. Police officers suspect that the vandals smearing these sugary treats on cars aren't buying them, but stealing them from a local shop dubbed WincCoFoods.
