Edward Snowden, the now infamous NSA whistleblower, seems to know a lot about the espionage operations conducted by the United States.

In an interview he had with Germany’s Der Spiegel Magazine while he was still in Hawaii, Snowden – at the time considered an anonymous NSA source – answered a few interesting questions.

One of them was related to the notorious Stuxnet virus that was used back in 2010 against Iranian nuclear facilities.

“The NSA and Israel wrote Stuxnet together,” Snowden said when asked if the NSA had any involvement in the Stuxnet program.

The US has not officially confirmed its involvement in the Stuxnet program. However, after the New York Times published a piece one year ago about the malware being a joint US-Israel operation, the Department of Justice launched an investigation to find out who was behind the leak.

Currently, reports say that Retired Marine Gen. James Cartwright, the former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is a suspect in the investigation.
