Snow Lines Review

- Anybody up for a snow fight?

By: Elena Balan, Communications News Editor

From the winter mobile gaming collection, Herocraft now brings out its latest creation: Snow Lines. Actually, it’s just the old Happy Lines game, wearing winter clothes. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the old game was excellent entertainment and managed to bring hours and hours of addictive challenges.

Snow Lines is more of a fiddlestick for the mobile gamer, as the old Happy Lines version was just as great and brought exactly the same puzzles. The only difference stands in the design. Instead of having some leaves and fall from the top of the screen and balloons in the background, we now see snowflakes and snowmen. It’s fresh and looks great, the main reason why someone might choose to buy something he already owns, only because it now comes in a brand new wrapping. This is the only upgrade coming from Herocraft on this game and nobody should expect anything more
from it.

The only new element that Snow Lines has to bring is the winter-themed graphics. We have the same happy and sour colored little bubbles as in the previous game, only that they are now tightly dressed to face the cold. The background picture also shows an image of some trees with branches bent under the weight of the snow. Instead of leaves falling from the top of the screen, we now have snowflakes. They act just about the same, making a true blizzard in the most soliciting moments of the game. This surely adds some strain and makes it difficult to concentrate on the next move and react in time.

With all the pine trees and snow, the vividly colored bubbles we found in Happy Lines now start looking more like globes in a Christmas tree. Of course, it might look a bit different for those who celebrate Hanukah this season, but the game tries to keep itself as far from the religious holidays as possible, by concentrating on the winter season and nothing more.

The game’s object is that of moving the bubbles from one place to another on a grid as to arrange them in lines or groups of four or six of the same color, in order to make them disappear and clear the table as much as possible. The player will have to do this as quickly as possible, against the clock, or to make a certain number of bubbles disappear without letting the grid fill.

There are also several features that help the player and also add some thrill to the game. After each move that the player chooses to make, other bubbles appear, threatening to fill up the grid. Their color and position can be guessed by looking for some shaded bubbles in the places where they are set to burst immediately as the player makes the move. They are all placed in random positions, very seldom according to the player’s plans of making a line of five or more faces of the same color. Next, when moving a bubble from one place to another, a trail of icy crystals shows the path that it had to make from one position to another.

The more you advance in the game, the bigger the challenge of keeping the grid as empty as possible will be. Combinations will turn next to impossible, especially as the path for moving a bubble from one place to another will be hindered by others appearing in all the wrong places, as to make it nearly impossible to make your pairs. Moreover, the number of bubbles that pop after each move will grow from three to four, as to make the grid fill up even faster. It becomes even more difficult to complete one level and move on to the next one, but the satisfaction of achieving this should be enough to keep the player going.

Faces of the same color usually have the same expression. They look grumpier than in the Happy Lines game, although they lighten up when brought together and just about to make a full pack disappear. The graphics of this new game is great and brings just the same quality and mild but vivid colors as seen in the previous version.

Whoever liked Happy Lines will love Snow Lines as well, for the simple reason that the new game is an upgraded version of the previous one. A little touch from Herocraft when it comes to action would have been even more welcomed, as to give the buyer the feeling that it’s worth the money.

Snowflake fans and people who feel more comfortable when playing a game matching the landscape outside will surely love Herocraft’s new game. It’s only a matter of fashion and the holiday season has always been keen on decorations and graphics, even in mobile games.

Herocraft now also brings a special offer, as to make the game even more appealing these holidays. The producer takes 50 percent off the price of Snow Lines for all those who already own Happy Lines, but want to upgrade to the winter version. Moreover, the offer goes the other way around as well. Whoever bought Snow Lines but does not own Happy Lines, can buy it now for half its price. Those who want to take advantage of this offer should send an email to smartsupport@herocraft.com and ask for Snow Lines. They will receive a prompt response and have to pay only half the normal price for the game they don't own, as long as they have already purchased its brother.
