Mac OS X 10.6 developer build available for download

An eagle-eyed 9to5mac reader has pointed out to the site's editors that Snow Leopard builds are in the wild and up for grabs. Doing a little search ourselves, it has been revealed that a certain “Snow Leopard 10A190.dmg” does indeed exist on torrent sites.

It is yet unknown whether this Snow Leopard build is the latest that developers could get their hands on. While many users reported (in the comments) a pretty good experience with this pre-release version of OS X 10.6, others simply advised Mac users to just wait for the retail version to come out. As you would expect, the software is extremely buggy and doesn't offer support for a multitude of programs. Or so says this user:

“I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard last week and i can say it was a bad decision because i could no longer use the programs( Limewire, Vuze, uTorrent, (transmission works) logic pro, garageband, my printer (even after installing new drivers)). I have also encountered errors such as- there is no picture behind the login box at login, spotlight's drop down box moved and did something wierd [sic].”

He continued to explain that “I got kind of annoyed with all of the programs that dont [sic] work and errors so i put in my leopard install cd and i did an archive and install. So i will just wait for the retail version of snow leopard to come out because the beta has too many errors.”

Others went on to offer instructions on how to rip the 10.6 developer build to a dual layer DVD, or even how to slap it onto a regular (4.7GB) DVD. The latter involves deleting the languages and printer drivers you don't really need to have a working OS.

Softpedia doesn't encourage downloading non-approved Apple software via torrent sites. This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that Mac users should go forth with downloading the developer builds of Snow Leopard currently available on torrent sites.
