Yesterday, Snoop Dog was officially charged with trying to smuggle a baton into San Francisco. The incident occurred on September 27, as the rapper was booking a flight at John Wayne Airport and airport security found the weapon in his carry-on luggage.
According to the 35-year-old star, no stranger to controversy or run-ins with the law, the collapsible baton was nothing but a prop for a movie he was going to shoot in San Francisco and not something that he meant for his personal use. At the time of the arrest, he also stated that he was unfamiliar with the law that classified police batons as illegal weapons.
Consequently, an arrest warrant was issued on his name and Snoop immediately complied with it. He was taken to the police station, where he was fingerprinted and had his mugshot taken. After a couple of hours, he was let out on bail, set at $150,000 and a court hearing was scheduled for December 12, when he will have to face weapon possession charges.
If found guilty, the rapper will most likely spend the next three years of his life in jail, although both his attorney and his spokesperson said that this would not be the case. Meredith O'Sullivan, the star's publicist, said that, quote, 'Snoop was promptly released on bail and welcomes an expedited trial which will reveal that these charges are completely unwarranted'.
Snoop's attorney was more drastic in his statement given after his client was released on bail, saying that the charges are 'bogus' and that there's proof to substantiate that the baton was, indeed, a prop and not a 'weapon' as it has been stated.
