Sniper Elite V2, the tactical shooter developed by Rebellion Developments and published by 505 Games, has managed to shoot its way to the number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart during its first week on sale.

The title allows gamers to take control of an OSS agent who is dropped in the middle of Berlin during 1945 and who needs to battle a variety of enemies as he seeks to get access to the secret research programs of the Reich and extract a number of scientists.

Prototype 2, the open-world action game from Radical and Activision Blizzard, has been forced to relinquish its number one position that it captured last week. Yet it continues to perform well in second place, while third has once again been won by FIFA 12, the football simulation title from EA Sports, which is seeing the benefits of the Euro 2012 downloadable content package launch.

FIFA Street, the spin-off that focuses more on tricks and close quarters dribbling, has taken over the fourth position in the United Kingdom chart, down two places when compared to the previous week.

Mass Effect 3, the action and role-playing hybrid from developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts, is in fifth place, down one when compared to the previous seven-day period, while Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13, another Electronic Arts published video game, has managed to gain one position to reach sixth.

Kinect Star Wars, the motion-powered LucasArts title, is on seventh place following a drop of two places and Mario & Sonic at the 2012 Olympic Games from SEGA has managed to gain one place in order to land on eighth.

Battlefield 3 is heading in the other direction and is now occupying ninth place in the United Kingdom chart while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is closing down the top ten.
