14 DAY TRIAL // After confirming it yesterday, Rebellion and 505 Games have just revealed the first actual details about Sniper Elite 3, the next installment in their pretty popular first-person shooter series, which will be released next year on current and next-generation consoles as well as PC.
Sniper Elite V2 came out last year and delivered a brand new sniper-focused shooter experience set in World War 2.
After the Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army spinoff that came out last month, developer Rebellion and publisher 505 Games have confirmed that a brand new game is set to appear next year, in the form of Sniper Elite 3.
The game will once again focus on sniping and continues to take place in the second world war, putting players in the shoes of protagonist Karl Fairburne who'll apparently go fight on the African front.
"Sniper Elite V2 has been a great success for us and we are thrilled to partner with Rebellion on Sniper Elite 3," said Ian Howe, president of 505 Games North America, in a statement.
"Fans can look forward to the same heart-pounding action they have come to expect from a Sniper Elite game as well as refined and new features that will blow them away."
Sniper Elite 3 promises to deliver all-new environments, a much larger open world sandbox, as well as a brand new storyline that will give players a bigger incentive throughout the campaign.
"We’ve got some great ideas to improve on what we did before and feedback from fans has been invaluable. Sniper Elite V2 was just the beginning of what we want to do with the franchise, there are things we didn’t have time to do before that we can really look at featuring this time," said Jason Kingsley, Rebellion CEO.
"We want to focus on making this latest incarnation of Sniper Elite more of a sandbox game but also build on the awesome X-Ray Kill Cam and the atmospheric World War II setting. We’re looking forward to seeing what Sniper Elite fans and gamers in general make of the latest chapter in the story."
Sniper Elite 3 will be out in 2014 for the PC as well as for current consoles, like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, as well as next-gen ones, like the PlayStation 4 or the oft-rumored Xbox 720.
