The difference between the two is not really huge

Rumors saying that Samsung will abandon the Snapdragon 810 chip in favor of taking up its own Exynos 7420 platform for the upcoming Galaxy S6 have sparked a lot of controversy.

Leaks showed that the Exynos 7420 performed godly and even surpassed the Snapdragon 810.

Well, the latest information available to us seems to refute all that. As pointed out by Trusted Reviews, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip has been spotted in AnTuTu, where it managed to score a hefty 61,499 points.

The chip powered a test unit with a 2K display and Android 5.0.2 out of the box. Naturally, benchmarks are a synthetic way to predict how the device will end up behaving in the wild, but at least we’re given a glimpse of what to expect.

Anyway, going back to this particular test, we’re taking the opportunity to remind you that a few days ago the Exynos 7420 chip was shown to score 60,978 points in AnTuTu.

Although the difference isn’t all that big, that between Qualcomm’s older offerings such as the 805 or 801 is pretty huge.

For example, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 running on the Snapdragon 805 scored 49,136 points, while Sony’s Xperia Z3 Snapdragon 801 managed to grab only 42,334.

The Snapdragon 810 also seems to be capable of towering over Apple’s A8 chip, which is inside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and scored only 46,940 points.

Returning to the Snapdragon 810 vs. Exynos 7420 feud, we have put the results of the AnTuTu tests side by side, so you can see which chip performs best on different tasks.

As you can see, the Samsung Exynos 7420 scores better in some areas, notably in the 3D test, so maybe the Galaxy S6 will prove to be a device gamers will love.

The Snapdragon 810 is tipped to be powering multiple flagships devices which are soon to be unveiled. Most notably, the HTC One M9 will go be unveiled at MWC 2015. Samsung is also going to launch its product at the same event, so the competition is going to be fierce.

We’re also expecting to see the Sony Xperia Z4, LG G4, OnePlus 2 and other top-tiers make a debut into the wild with the Snapdragon 810 on board.

The LG G Flex 2 was the first handset to be announced that takes advantage of this platform and we’re currently waiting for it to hit retail later this month. Then we can see how the Snapdragon 810 performs in real life.
