Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 is already one of the most powerful mobile phones out there, but it appears that it might not be too long before an even faster version of the device arrives on shelves.

Nothing has been officially confirmed on this as of now, but Samsung and Qualcomm brought a Snapdragon 805-based version of the smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, mainly to showcase new LTE connectivity features.

To be more precise, they modified it to fit the new mobile processor, which can deliver LTE Advanced Category 6 connectivity capabilities.

On Tuesday, Qualcomm demonstrated download speeds of up to 300Mbps, possible courtesy of the new technology, and did so on Samsung’s handset.

To be more precise, the demonstration was performed on a specially modified Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which was powered by the aforementioned Snapdragon 805 processor, while also featuring the Qualcomm Gobi 9x35 modem (which can deliver said speeds).

Qualcomm also notes that the Snapdragon 805 processor is its highest performing chip to date, and that the Gobi 9x35 comes as its fourth-generation 3G/LTE multimode solution, the first commercially announced cellular modem based on 20 nm technology.

It should not be too long before the first devices to feature LTE Cat 6 arrive on shelves, especially since the technology will be commercialized starting with this year, it seems.

According to SamMobile, Galaxy Note 3 might be one of the first smartphones to arrive on the market with the Snapdragon 805 processor inside, thus being capable of offering the aforementioned download speeds to its users.

Of course, neither Samsung nor Qualcomm offered an official confirmation on the matter, and we should take this with a grain of salt for the time being.

On the other hand, the fact that Samsung modified the handset for the demonstration clearly shows that it has an active interest in the technology, and that it could announce specific plans on the launch of smartphones packing it sooner rather than later.

Such a device, however, will be available only in South Korea in the beginning, on the network of SK Telecom. KT (which contributed to the demonstration as well) is also expected to adopt the LTE Cat 6 technology.

Provided that Galaxy Note 3 isn’t redesigned and re-launched with a Snapdragon 805 processor inside, we might see its successor featuring the new CPU inside. Samsung has a history of including the latest industry advancements inside its new devices, and the next Galaxy Note smartphone might have a similar fate.
