Snapchat is a popular way to communicate on mobile

Along WhatsApp and Viber, Snapchat is one of the most popular instant messaging platforms for mobile devices. The messaging service has hundreds of millions of users worldwide, but have you ever wondered which is the exact number?

Snapchat’s Chief Executive Officer, Evan Spiegel answers this question for us, himself. As Business Insider UK reports, Spiegel announced that the service is fast approaching one hundred of million daily active users (one tenth of what Facebook has).

Back in August, it was announced that Snapchat has exceeded one hundred million monthly “active” users, but Spiegel prefers to think in terms of “daily” active users.

This due to the fact that measuring by virtue of monthly active users isn’t specific enough, given the fact that the smartphone is the platform of choice when it comes to using such communication apps. And since users always carry a smartphone with them, they tend to check for messages every single day.

Snapchat continues to rise and rise

Even if Snapchat has yet to catch up with Facebook in terms of users, Snapchat users do seem more prone to consume video content than Facebook aficionados. On top of that, data shows that about two thirds of Snapchat users are creating their own content every day.

Snapchat has been pretty skittish in disclosing usage statistics until recently. But the company is striving to become bigger and better.

Not so long ago, the startup introduced a new service called “Stories” which welcomes advertiser support. For those who are not familiar with Stories, this is a service which allows users to put together a collection of photos and videos “borrowed” (actually sourced) from a number of different users depending on location.

Snapchat also seems to have a growing interest in the political environment. Recently the company placed a job ad seeking “political junkies and news aficionados to join the team in NYC to help review Snaps […] and cover the 2016 presidential race.”

On top of that, rumor has it that Snapchat will finally be making its way to the Windows Phone platform after only being available for iOS and Android. Which means more users for Snapchat.
