A passenger brought it aboard in a cardboard box

A passenger has brought a snake onto an EasyJet flight and he managed to get it on the plane without being asked any question.

“They gave me a lot of hassle when boarding – but about paying £25 ($40 / €30) because I had an extra piece of luggage. [...] They just wanted extra money,” Adam Gubbay tells the Mirror.

He mentioned having the snake in a cardboard box and going through security without being stopped.

“The snake wasn’t a problem. I had Milky in a cardboard box with air holes which I put in a bag. […] It even beeped when it went through security. They scanned it then let me go through,” he describes.

Milky is a two and half-foot (76-cm) corn snake that has terrified other passengers after it was let out of its box.

“A woman in our row just started screaming: ‘Snake on a plane!’ Some people were concerned but others were cool,” he recalls.

He opened the box to give the reptile water. He bought it during his trip to Israel for his cousin's wedding and he was returning to Stoke Newington, East London.

“The whole thing was a misunderstanding. I’m an animal lover and it was all very stressful,” he says.

A spokeswoman for EasyJet states that bringing the reptile aboard is completely against flight rules.

“The cabin crew were only made aware [of the snake] during the flight and they dealt with the issue in a professional manner.

“The harmless snake remained in its container at all times and passengers were not in danger. We have raised the issue with the airport to understand why the reptile was not detected,” she says.

While the pilot warned that he would land the plane early, he flied it to its destination as scheduled. The airline is investigating how security have missed the reptile.
