iOS hacker iH8sn0w has updated Sn0wbreeze, his Windows-only jailbreak utility, to support the latest iOS 5 beta from Apple. Developers looking to hack iOS 5 Beta 6, for one reason or another, can achieve what is known as a “tethered” jailbreak using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b6, according to the author.

Announced by iH8sn0w on Twitter earlier this week, Sn0wbreeze 2.8b6 can effectively jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 6 as well as preserve the baseband (and hacktivate) for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users who rely on Ultrasn0w or Gevey SIM unlock, according to Redmond Pie.

The jailbreak, however, is “tethered,” meaning that every time the user is faced with having to reboot, they will need to reconnect their device to Sn0wbreeze.

There is one device model for which Sn0wbreeze 2.8b6 can provide an un-tethered jailbreak of iOS 5 Beta 6, namely the old bootrom iPhone 3GS. Also worth noting is that the iPad 2 is not at all supported (not even ‘tethered’).

According to its author, the latest version of Sn0wbreeze also includes the ability to remove UDID check.

For those who don’t speak ‘geek,’ this means that even non-developers can employ Sn0wbreeze 2.8b6 to install iOS 5 Beta 6 on their device. The tool allows users to thwart the Beta expiry timer set by Apple as well.

A full changelog of Sn0wbreeze 2.8b6 can be found below, courtesy of Redmond Pie. According to iH8sn0w, this release of Sn0wbreeze is intended for the developer types.
