Hi-Rez Studios have announced that they will be hosting a Smite Tournament Series, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia.

The competition will take place from March 28 to March 30, when the top eight Smite teams from North America and Europe will be pitted against each other in a contest with a total prize pool of $100k / €74k.

The North American and European teams will qualify separately, in weekly matches, between now and up until the end of February. Hi-Rez Studios will then proceed to fly each region's top 4 teams to Atlanta, where the double elimination final LAN tournament will take place.

Smite is a third-person multiplayer online battle arena, offering a slightly different experience than the leading MOBAs League of Legends and Dota 2. The playable character roster features gods from seven different pantheons, ranging from Chinese through Egyptian and Mayan.

Additional details and the full structure of the tournament can be found in the $100k Smite Launch Tournament announcement.

Hi-Rez is also the developer of the Tribes: Ascend multiplayer shooter, for which they have announced to suspend all future development, in order to fully focus their efforts on the more successful Smite.
