Yeah, you're reading it right, it's beginning to smell like QuakeCon 2007. This means that all of you Quake fans can drop everything and head on to your favorite gaming event. The 2007 edition has just been announced and will take place between August 2 and 5.

If you can't get yourself at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, in the respective period, you can forget about all the gaming events and exhibits planned by the organizers. In this year's event, there will be 2,700 player spots, over 1,000 more seats than in 2006. The organizers have booked the entire Trinity Hall 1, and this translates into over 70,000 square feet of floor space.

According to QuakeCon's official website, the exhibit area has also been increased, and it is now large enough to accommodate up to 50 exhibitors. What will be new in this 2007 event is that the "Quick Draw" tournaments will be reintroduced. In this kind of tournaments, attendees will be picked randomly and given the opportunity of facing each other for some serious cash.

Registration will be free as always, and will begin on March 2. I know that this date seems very far away but if you are a true Quake fan, it's well worth the wait.

I guess there is no need for me to explain to you the magnitude of this event. It's by far North America's largest LAN party, maybe the biggest LAN party in the world. But QuakeCon means more than some gamers going against each other in a Quake tournament. It is also a showcase for the newest games and hardware, some of them still unreleased.
