Escaping to sleep

The alarm clock industry is making good money each year thanks to those who smash their clocks as alarms go off. Now, it's obvious that you have to get a new clock after your old one took a dive out the window, or crashed into 104 pieces as your kick-sent it flying into a wall. And that’s how it goes, with almost innumerable methods to destroy the clocks. Because hitting an alarm clock is a rather common practice, Argentinean designer Santiago Cantera has come up with a very cool alarm clock concept destined to be hit in order to enter snooze mode: the Escape Key Alarm Clock.

As its very name says, this clock is shaped like a computer key and has "Esc" written on it; maybe Mr. Cantera is a fan of sleeping and that's why the snooze function might look like an escape to the world of dreams. In any case, we loved it.

One of the very neat features about the Escape Button Alarm Clock is the digital clock/screen embedded in the very casing of the gadget, in a very OLED-esque manner and looking absolutely cool; even more, we're talking a monstrous level of readability in any lighting conditions, be it complete darkness or the sunniest of penthouses.

The design is shock-proof even though we'd rather say it's shock-inviting: as the alarm goes off, you can have this clock entering snooze mode with a sharp blow on its top. Cool thing that you can satisfy your hunger for morning violence against home appliances that wake you up while at the same time enjoying a time-keeping gadget that can withstand this kind of abuse. And you wake up.

And even cooler things could come out of this if you hooked the Escape Button Alarm Clock to the audio system wirelessly and have your audio rack play some fast heavy metal to wake you up, pausing for some 5 minutes after the Esc clock receives the fist punch and then resuming the ear-bleeding solo, only for the clock to get hit again, and pause, and...

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
