Little known outside of Germany, Smartbook, a company specialized in building ARM-powered entry-level notebooks, has recently begun selling an Nvidia Tegra 3 powered copycat of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that has a starting price of 399 EUR, or about $530 US.

The tablet was showcased for the first time at this year’s CeBIT fair, but Fudzilla now reports that online stores in Europe have started adding it to their offer.

On the outside, the slate looks surprisingly similar to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, even featuring the same proprietary port as that utilized by Samsung’s creation.

On the inside however quite a lot of things have changed when compared with the Galaxy Tab 10.1, as the tablet, which is built by a Chinese company named Malata, is now powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device.

As many of you know, Nvidia’s chipset is based on a proprietary 4 plus 1 core design paired with a fast GeForce graphics core.

In the Smartbook slate, the Tegra 3 SoC is seconded by 1GB of RAM, while for storage purposes the company went with 16GB of Flash memory.

The rest of the features list includes a 10.1-inch IPS screen with a 1280x800 resolution, front mounted 2MP webcam and a 5MP rear snapper, the latter also coming as an upgrade over the 3MP camera installed by Samsung in the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

All these are powered by a 6500mAh battery, and the operating system of choice is Android 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich.
