If you have a few bucks lying around and feel like putting them to good use, here is what you can do: head over to Kickstarter and support a campaign that aims to raise enough funds to make a smart water heater available on the market.

Unlike “dumb” water heaters, the Heatworks MODEL 1 can help people lower both their electricity and their water consumption.

Its developers tell us that, according to tests carried out thus far, this water heater can cut energy use by as much as 40%. Besides, it can lower the water consumption of the average household by about 10%.

“[It] uses state of the art electronic technology to directly energize and heat the water molecules, rather than heating the water with old-school resistance heating elements,” they write in the product's description.

Furthermore, “The MODEL 1 eliminates all failure modes of conventional water heating technology and provides more features at the same or less cost.”

Check out the video below to get a better idea of how the Heatworks MODEL 1 works.

The Kickstarter campaign started by ISI Technology, i.e. the smart water heater's creator, has 39 days left to go.

Still, it has raised over $97,000 (€71,185) of its $125,000 (€91,734) goal, so I suppose it is safe to assume that people are really interested in new technologies that can help them improve on their ecological footprint and save money at the same time.
