Smaller iPods thanks to Toshiba

In the last years, the size and storing capacity of iPod digital players have been several times changed. This was possible due to the technological discoveries that allowed the storage of an increasing amount of information on a 1.8 inch hard-disk. Now, Toshiba announces that it has succeeded once again to shrink even more the storage
support.

In this way, the experts' predictions that announced that capacity won't be the main purchasing criterion for a player. Size and portability will be equally important, as well battery life span.

Toshiba's storage division has presented the new, smaller 1.8 inch hard-disk models which are available with capacities of 60GB, 40GB, 30GB and 20GB. The 30 and 20GB models will be 0.2 inches smaller that the previous models and will weigh 48.1 grams. The 40GB and 60GB models will be 0.3 inches smaller and will weigh 60 grams.

Toshiba obtained excellent results with the previous models of 1.8 inch, the company selling 14 million units. If Toshiba starts employing the technology of perpendicular writing, such a drive will be able to store up to 80GB of data.
