Small but Powerful Car PCs

Mini-box announced the imminent availability of the VoomPC-2 line-up of low-power, high performance car PCs. The specially designed car PC is based on the small factor Mini-ITX platform. It comes with an integrated battery management unit and also sports an intelligent power supply which eliminates battery drain problems and prevents damage from unwanted power surges. The miniature PC aims at delivering navigation and productivity options, as well as superior audio and video performance.
The special battery management device which eliminates battery drain enables the VoomPC-2 to consume less energy. It even operates in extreme temperatures, all the way from -40C up to 55C.

The car PC model is actually a standard X 86 computer that can run both Linux and Windows. It enables users to easily integrate non-proprietary telematics and other similar applications. It supports a wide range of GPS navigation, communication, and audio-video applications. The VoomPC-2 is suited for in-vehicle entertainment, as much as for serious applications, including here security, rescue or delivery service. The computer's case is made of massive 5.5 mm extruded anodized aluminum and it ideally fits under the seat or in the car's trunk.

VoomPC-2 Car PC integrates a Mini-ITX motherboard, a 1.5Ghz VIA C7 processor, PCMCIA type I and type II CardBus interfaces for GPRS/WiFi/smart 5+1 channels audio. In addition, a rich I/O variety such as VGA, S-Video, USB 2.0, Firewire, and Ethernet is included. The enclosure can also take a SlimCD drive and a 2.5" HDD drive.
The VoomPC-2 is an affordable piece of hardware, managing to shatter the industry's low cost barrier with an entry level model priced at just $399.
