The bogus notifications inform recipients that a complaint has been filed against them

The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued an alert to warn businesses about bogus emails that purport to come from the organization.

Entitled “NOTIFICATION OF CONSUMER COMPLAINT,” the fake messages inform recipients that a complaint has been filed against them with the FTC.

“The email falsely states that a complaint has been filed against their company. It contains a link to consumer complaints, a link to contact the FTC, and an FTC telephone number – but the email is fake,” the FTC warns.

Recipients of such emails are advised not to open the emails and delete them immediately. The links they contain might install “a virus or other spyware,” the agency notes.

Back in January, the FTC issued a similar warning, but it appears the malicious campaign is still active.
