Sling Media, the team behind the popular SlingPlayer media player for mobile devices, have just updated its Android versions of the application.

Both tablets and phones versions have been updated with new features and enhancements, which promise to offer a smoother user experience and better picture quality.

SlingPlayer for Tablets update fixes some bugs and improve UI formatting on Google Nexus 7 tablet. In addition, the latest version of the application features quicker responsiveness when issuing remote control commands in HQ mode.

Last but not least, users can now set various reminders by simply long-pressing future programs in the program guide.

SlingPlayer for Tablets 3.0.5 is now available for download via Google Play store for around $30 USD and it should be fully compatible with all tablets running Android 3.0 Honeycomb and up. Check it out here.

Keep in mind that SlingPlayer for Tablets does not work on Slingboxes prior to SOLO and PRO-HD. It appears that legacy boxes do not have the required hardware configuration to stream at Android tablets’ higher resolution.

Back on the SlingPlayer application for Android phones, developers added some pretty neat features and redesigned the user interface in order to give it a fresher look.

Aside from the new look and feel, the update also adds an electronic program guide, as well as the ability to set reminders in the guide by long-pressing future programs (just like the tablet version).

Furthermore, Sling Media also included consistent improvements in picture quality in HQ mode for smartphones running Android 4.0 and up.

SlingPlayer for Phones 2.0.5 is now available for download via Google Play store for around $30 USD and it should be fully compatible with all phones running Android 2.2 Froyo and up. Check it out here.

According to developers, the application may work with certain Slingboxes prior to SOLO and PRO-HD in certain configurations.
