Low profile CPU coolers don't really need much of an introduction. It's easy enough to guess what they are for: low form factor PCs, particularly HTPCs of small height.

GELID has just introduced the SlimHero, part of the SILENT product line. It has a height of just 5.9 mm and can chill CPUs with TDPs of 136W.

It supports AMD AM2/ AM2+/AM3/ AM3+/ FM1/ FM2 sockets, as well as Intel 775/ 1155/ 1156/ 1366 (LGA 1155).

The product has four sintered power heatpipes, a thin heatsink and a silent, slim 120mm fan. An intelligent PWM control is included, for the mini motherboards that have BIOS controls for it.

"A Mini-PC provides entertainment in today's living room and a powerful but silent low profile cooler such as the SlimHero makes it happen," says VC Tran, marketing director of GELID Solutions.

Sales are already underway, for $32 / 25 Euro.
