Girls Aloud redhead Nicola Roberts is now getting a lot of criticism in the British tabs for apparently losing some weight and looking thinner than ever, with many unnamed spies “revealing” that she’s been starving herself to be almost model-like. Nothing could be farther from the truth, the singer says in the latest issue of Closer magazine.

She’s a size 6 now and, while she might be lighter than she was in the past, this is certainly not down to starving herself or working out like crazy every day, the 24-year-old star says. On the contrary, she’s always been thin because she has a small frame by nature. Add to that the fact that she doesn’t like the gym that much and the only exercise she gets is a walk with her dogs, and fans should be convinced that Nicola is not doing anything excessive to stay this thin.

“Everyone keeps talking about my weight, which I find so ridiculous. I’m a size 6 and I’m not ashamed of that – I have a naturally small frame and it’s the way I’ve always been. I’ve not been starving myself or exercising every day. It’s irresponsible for people to obsess over it because I don’t want girls to feel they have to be the same shape. I’ve never been a gym bunny. Walking the dogs is my only exercise – that’s enough for me,” the star explains, hoping to put rumors to rest.

Late last year, Nicola also opened up for the first time about her new-found confidence and improved self-esteem, reaching out to all women out there to tell them that being different also means being beautiful. Roberts, who has very fair skin and red hair, tried to fit in with the other Girls Aloud girls by using fake tan, coloring her hair a different color and wearing clothes that made her almost unrecognizable. But that was before she realized she did not have to fit in, that she could be herself and still be beautiful, she said in an older interview.

“I was called ‘the ugly one’. I [grew up] surrounded by four of the most gorgeous girls in the country. My thing was my white skin and red hair. I hated it and hated myself. […] I’ve begun to accept myself. I love my white skin, I love my hair and fashion has really been part of that journey of acceptance. I’m just a girl who loves fashion. I’m finding my way, finding my style and whatever anyone thinks I’m enjoying myself. […] The fact I have white skin and red hair is my thing. It’s my different thing and in the fashion world, that’s OK,” Nicola was saying a while back, as we also reported.
