iOS Wrapper SDK allows devs to ‘wrap’ Palm software around an iOS apps

StyleTap, a Canada-based software company, has come up with a tool that allows the deployment of Palm OS application in the Apple App Store.

“StyleTap iOS Wrapper SDK enables you to deploy many of the 30,000 mobile applications written for Palm OS as iOS applications that run on standard Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices,” reads the company’s announcement.

The company explains that StyleTap Platform for iPhone isn’t available in the App Store because it provides capabilities that are restricted by Apple.

In that respect, the StyleTap iOS Wrapper SDK allows devs to deploy a Palm application on the iOS platform. The tool “wraps” the Palm application inside StyleTap Platform for iPhone in a way that removes all of the restrictions enforced by Apple.

“You can then submit the resulting iPhone application to be included in the Apple App Store,” the company says.

However, even if you pull off a great app, that still doesn’t guarantee its acceptance in the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

StyleTap themselves admit that, saying “StyleTap does not guarantee that Apple will accept your iOS application for inclusion in the App Store. There are many reasons completely unrelated to StyleTap Platform that may cause Apple to not approve your application for the App Store.”

As such, you’re free to download a free 14-day trial of StyleTap Platform for iPhone and install it on a jailbroken device to evaluate the tool.

Naturally, those interested in building an iOS app this way will require Xcode from Apple. Xcode is a free download from the Mac App Store. It includes tools to create iOS and Mac OS X applications for inclusion in Apple’s App Stores.

If you want to deploy an app internally, you’ll need to register with the Apple Enterprise Developer's Program.
