Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition has just been confirmed by Square Enix and United Front Games, as the two companies are once again working together to bring forth this new version of the game to PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Sleeping Dogs was originally released back in 2012 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms as an all-new open-world action adventure experiences. The title impressed with its special setting, that of Hong Kong, not to mention the violent hand-to-hand combat that focused on protagonist Wei Shen, an undercover cop tasked with infiltrating the Triads.

The game went on to gain a following but, so far, a sequel isn't being rumored just yet.

However, in recent months different leaks have appeared concerning a Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition, which consists of a remastered version of the original game, much in the same way as Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, that appeared earlier this year, did.

Now, developer United Front Games and publisher Square Enix have confirmed that Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition is set to debut this October around the world.

This new version of the game boasts not just remastered visuals but also lots of improvements to gameplay, the open world, as well as all the DLC packs released so far for the original title.

"Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition is a re-mastered update of the critically acclaimed Sleeping Dogs which released in 2012. The capabilities of today’s hardware have truly brought the vibrant Hong Kong experience to life," the two companies said, via AGB.

"In addition, a total of 24 pieces of downloadable content have been integrated into the gaming experience including the story-extending episode Year of the Snake and the horror-themed add-on Nightmare In North Point."

According to United Front Games Senior Producer Dan Sochan, the team was eager to go back to Sleeping Dogs after working on Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and wants to deliver more than just a visually remastered experience.

"We’re giving old and new fans a lot reasons to pick up the game, as we’ve gone beyond just increasing resolution and running at 1080p. We listened to the fans: we tuned gameplay, we added to the ambience of Hong Kong, increased audio fidelity and pushed the visuals further than we could on the previous generation of consoles."

A set of pretty impressive screenshots was also released, alongside a video that recycles the live-action footage that appeared when Sleeping Dogs was originally launched two years ago.

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition is set to debut on October 10, in Europe, and October 14, in North America, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. You can expect United Front Games and Square Enix to start sharing more and more details about specific improvements made to the game soon enough, probably next week at Gamescom 2014.
