As one of the hundreds of millions of people worldwide who cannot sleep properly at night, I was very excited to hear about a new research showing that sleep quality improves with age. The sad part about this study is that you have to wait until you're 80+ to experience these benefits.

The bright side is that the investigation was carried out on more than 155,000 participants, which means that it has a high degree of certainty. On the other hand, the work does shed some doubt on established theories regarding the connections between good sleep and old age.

For those interested in more details, the work is published in the March issue of the journal Sleep.

On average, women experience more sleep disturbances, and are tired overall, than men. Both genders report experiencing health problems such as depression due to lack of proper sleep. While sleep problems do increase in middle-age, the new study suggests that they may decrease as we age, PsychCentral reports.
