It seems that the new Call of Duty video game that is created by developer Sledgehammer Games is set to use a futuristic setting and might borrow a number of ideas from the Modern Warfare continuity, which has been handled by Infinity Ward previously.

The Escapist quotes a YouTube streaming personality called Drift0r, who previously offered interesting leaks about the franchise, and who says he has the information from an unidentified source inside the development team.

The new Call of Duty will not be called Modern Warfare 4 and it will also not be a full reboot for the series, as Sledgehammer Games tries to replicate a number of science-fiction-based experiences, including the Tom Cruise-led movie Oblivion.

It seems that there are also major similarities with Titanfall, the coming shooter that is being developed by Respawn Entertainment, a development studio composed of veterans from Call of Duty that were forced to leave Infinity Ward by a conflict with publisher Activision.

The new Call of Duty will apparently offer a more open structure, with the leaked content built around a power plant with turbines, which featured a multi-story design and allowed gamers to also explore a metropolitan area.

At the moment, neither Sledgehammer Games nor Activision has commented on the leak, and they are unlikely to offer any sort of official information about the game until E3 2014, when a big reveal will probably take place.

When it announced financial results and expectations for the year, the publisher revealed that it was moving to a three-year rotation for Call of Duty, with development duties handled by Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games.

Various company leaders also claimed that this would be the best title ever launched in the series, with a number of new elements that will surprise long-term fans of the franchise.

Until the launch of an entirely new Call of Duty, Infinity Ward is continuing to work on more downloadable content for Ghosts.

Those playing on Xbox platforms can now get access to a new pack built around the villains of the series, which includes Makarov skins for multiplayer.

More DLC will probably arrive before summer in order to introduce new maps, a new game mode, and more content for the Nightfall cooperative campaign.

The Call of Duty series will face tough competition from both Titanfall and from the Bungie-made Destiny later in the year.
