The development team at Sledgehammer Interactive working on the new Call of Duty title set to launch in the autumn of this year says that the game is the most ambitious and creative experience they have ever worked on.

Glen Schofield, the leader of the studio, was referring to the entire career he has spent in gaming working with Michael Condrey, the other founder of the company, according to Gamespot.

During a presentation at the Game Developers Conference, the pair showed an in-game image taken from the new Call of Duty, but they offered no clear details on the type of experience they were creating, the core mechanics or the story they planned to tell.

Sledgehammer Games has previously said that it aims to deliver a new take on the classic first-person shooter franchise and that long-term fans might be in for a few surprises.

An official announcement for the game will probably be delivered at E3 2014.

Glen Schofield was recruited by Activision in 2009 after spending a lot of time leading the Visceral Games studio at rivals Electronic Arts, where they created the successful Dead Space franchise.

Sledgehammer Games first worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 alongside Infinity Ward.

The studio now has about 200 people and might need to add a few more in order to create the new shooter.

The new Call of Duty is the first made using the new three year, three studio structure that Activision has instituted for the series.

Treyarch and Infinity Ward will work for on titles that will be launched in 2015 and 2016 and they will get support from both Raven Software and Neversoft Entertainment.

Activision has said that the changes will make the Call of Duty series more resilient, with more time spent to polish each of the experiences and a bigger chance for each studio to introduce a set of new ideas for the game worlds they are working on.

Call of Duty is one of the biggest video game franchises in the world, but the most recent installment, Ghosts, has not been able to match the sales performance of its predecessors, despite the fact that it was also launched on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

Fans of the shooter genre will be able to pick up at least two other DLC packs for the title this year, with Devastation set to arrive in early April.
