Slax, a modern, portable, small and fast Linux operating system with a modular approach and outstanding design, is now at version 7.0 RC1.

Slax 7.0 RC1 is based on the KDE 4.x branch and comes with a lot of applications from the KDE SC package, for network, multimedia and games.

Other applications included in the distro are the Pidgin messenger, Mozilla Firefox, Mplayer (video player), and a few others.

The developer boasts about the fact that the entire system fits on 183MB, for the 32-bit architecture, and on 188MB, for the 64-bit architecture. It should run well on 256MB of RAM and more.

Slax 7.0 RC1 most likely contains all the applications that will be available in the final version, but the development tools haven't been added to the distribution yet.

Download Slax 7.0 RC1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
