Intel’s top performing iGPU is actually quite capable, but the drivers must be improved

During this year’s IDF 2012 event in San Francisco, California, Intel has presented its next-generation processor called Haswell and the powerful integrated graphics processing unit (iGPU) that comes inside.

One of the most anticipated aspects about Haswell is the impressive graphics performance and the low power consumption while the x86 computing performance is becoming somewhat less relevant nowadays.

We’re not sure if Intel agrees with Rory Read’s “good enough” approach or if the company is only playing down the x86 performance aspect especially because Haswell has nothing impressive to show us.

On the iGPU side, Haswell’s GT3 is really impressive despite the fact that is not able to reach the same high frequencies that HD4000 has as we reported here.

We reported here that GT3 will “only” be twice as fast as Intel’s HD4000, but hardware experts at Anandtech have reportedly snatched a video of the new iGPU running Skyrim in HD and FullHD.

There’s no info on the frame rate or on what type of CPU was powering it, so we can’t say whether it was a mobile processor or a top performing desktop part.
