The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is set to be the number one video game in the United Kingdom in time for Christmas, according to the data for sales compiled by Media Create for the week that ended on December 17.

The Bethesda made game has managed to keep the number one position that it earned last week, when it surged over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Second place in the United Kingdom video game sales chart went to Just Dance 3, the rhythm based game from Ubisoft, which has managed to go up one position since the previous seven day period, while the last position on the podium has been captured by Modern Warfare 3, from publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward.

FIFA 12, the football simulation from EA Sports, has managed to hold steady at number four, showing the popularity that the game enjoys in England, while fifth place has been taken over by Saints Row: The Third, the open world action game from publisher THQ and developer Volition, which managed a pretty solid comeback from eight.

Battlefield 3 from DICE and Electronic Arts has also managed to keep sixth place in the chart while Assassin’s Creed: Revelations from Ubisoft has again lost some position, going down from number five.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games has managed to make a surprising re-entry in the top ten at eight while Need for Speed: The Run, the racing game from Black Box and publisher Electronic Arts, has also raced up the chart to land in ninth.

The top ten is closed down by Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call from Nintendo, which slid down from seventh.

Games like Batman: Arkham City, Mario Kart 7, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Sonic Genrations and Super Mario 3D Land are out of the top ten.
