Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has dwarfed Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Steam in terms of popularity, with statistics from the digital distribution service showcasing that more than 287,000 of its users simultaneously played the role playing, as opposed to just 86,000 players who enjoyed the shooter.

The last couple of weeks saw a lot of blockbuster games appear, including single-player experiences like Skyrim, as well as more multiplayer-focused ones, like Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3.

But, while many say we're in an age where online multiplayer is king, the arrival of Skyrim has demonstrated that there's still a huge amount of players enjoying its single-player campaign, as highlighted by statistics from Valve's Steam digital distribution service.

In the last day, 287,411 Steam users played Skyrim at the same time, while 86,832 enjoyed Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer. Even if you factor in the 41,669 who enjoyed the shooter's single-player, Modern Warfare 3 still can't touch Skyrim's massive total.

Have you spent the weekend with the all-new Skyrim or did you still jump into Call of Duty: MW3?
