Skyrim Close to Overtaking Oblivion’s Lifetime Sales Figures

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released for little over a month, and already the NPD group has revealed that it’s almost going to overtake the lifetime sales figures of its predecessor, Oblivion.

Skyrim impressed lots of gamers when it was released on November 11, selling more than 3.5 million copies in its first 48 hours of retail availability. The sales momentum was continued throughout the month of November, with Skyrim managing to come in second place after the sales behemoth that is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

“In one month, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is just about half a million units shy of matching Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in lifetime sales,” NPD's Anita Frazier revealed, via Industry Gamers. “Its first month performance was a five-fold increase over Oblivion’s first month sales. The game garnered outstanding review scores.”

This is definitely great news for Bethesda as well as for triple-A titles that only have a single-player mode, proving that customers will still buy experiences even if they can’t play them with or against their friends.

This is terrific news for the guys over at Bethesda. They actually take their time making great games that we all know and love. What I don't understand, is how publisher companies like Activision, can force feed us a new call of duty game every year, and we just gobble it up. We should be supporting the games and companies that give us joy, not the ones that make you want to tear off your eyebrows.
