Skype announced on Wednesday that it will allow its instant messaging to be built into Web sites and software programs such as music playing applications or multiplayer online games.
The free Internet telephony Luxembourg-based firm published its intentions only a few hours after Google announced it would become competitor of Skype.
Unlike other big instant messaging companies, like AOL, Yahoo or Microsoft,
Skype can afford to totally focus on global Internet communications, because it has no aim in driving customers to its own web site.
Through the new SkypeNet and SkypeWeb projects, Skype will welcome the second anniversary of its foundation, on August 29, with fully integrated services into Web sites and software programs.
Skype has about 51 million registered users all over the world, with 44% in Europe, 29% in Asia, 13% in North America and 10% in South America.
That must be one of the reasons they do not fear newly launched IM&VM Google or Yahoo competition or even worse, being assimilated by bigger rivals, as rumored.
Just the opposite, they are ready for more competition.
"We have potential, as the only IM company focused on communications and a result of our fast growth. We're very happy with our prospects as a standalone company. We've always meant this company to be for the long run. We're investing heavily in our infrastructure", stated Janus Friis, Skyper co-founder.
