Although Skype already arrived in the mobile space, an application for Windows Phone 7 devices is unavailable at the moment, at least not in an official manner.

However, it seems that the Skype and Windows Phone 7 might soon come together via an application released via XDA-Developers, as the first steps in this area were already taken.

According to a recent post on the XDA-Developers forum (via WPCentral), Jefis, Windows Phone 7 developer, has started the work on a Skype for Windows Phone 7 application.

Things are still in a nascent stage, but things are quite promising, and it might not be too long before a stable release is available for those interested in giving it a try.

To show us how things are moving along, the said forum member posted a series of screenshots, which reportedly come from the small group of people working on the project.

“I recently made quite a progress in developing skype for WP7. I want to share my current progress with you, so maybe someone will want to join this little project, which, in future will be released for free, and probably with source code,” Jefis notes in the said post.

This is not an official software, of course, as Skype themselves might be working on the delivery of an application for Microsoft's new mobile operating system.

Microsoft already said that it would offer support for the homebrew community interested in coming up with software for its Windows Phone 7 operating system, and projects like this might see support not only from the XDA-Developers community.

As stated above, the app already started to shape up, and some of its features reportedly work, though it remains to be seen if its would actually be able to offer all of the functionalities that Skype provides on other mobile platforms.

Until more on this emerges, take a look at the screenshots attached to this article, and head over to the aforementioned forum post to learn more on the new application.
