Microsoft has just released a new version of its Skype for Windows 8 client that’s available to all users running the latest operating system rolled out by the company.

The update comes with the highly anticipated file transfer option, thus allowing Windows 8 users to send and receive photos and documents without actually leaving the Metro UI.

In addition, the new Skype brings several performance improvements and general fixes, according to the official release notes published in the Store.

Of course, the update is available for all Windows 8 builds, including x86, x64 and ARM versions, so Windows RT tablet owners can deploy it as well. The new version is being delivered through the integrated Windows Store.
