The application feels fast and fluid, although in a preview flavor at the moment

Windows 8 will land on the market with a nice range of applications from Microsoft packed inside, and with access to some more of them coming from the company itself.

One of these would be Skype, redesigned to take full advantage of the new Modern UI design principles that Microsoft has come up with for the platform.

Skype is already available for Windows’ desktop mode, and offers support for Windows 8 as well, but no version for the formerly named Metro UI has been available so far.

In the coming months, however, this should change, as the Redmond-based software giant is well underway with the development of a new flavor of Skype.

Suited for use mainly on Windows RT devices, though it would certainly work great on Windows 8-based PCs and tablets as well, the application has just made an appearance online in a series of screenshots published over at Neowin.

At the moment, the application is available in a preview state, but it appears to be performing pretty well, and to be quite stable.

The news site claims to have conducted calls with one and multi-person chats and that they encountered little issue. The application is also said to come with a fast and fluid interface, and that it appears to be finger friendly, which should make it a great option for the owners of touch-enabled Windows 8 devices.

The interface is clean and easy to navigate, making the older app look heavy and hard to navigate through. Chatting has been improved, now featuring alternating colored backgrounds for each of the people engaged in the conversation.

Overall, the app felt like being nothing like a preview flavor, and the news site suggests that Microsoft might make it official in the not too distant future.

Skype is the most popular VoIP service in the world, and it clearly does not come as a surprise that Microsoft has been working on coming up with a Windows 8 specific application as well, though it remains to be seen whether it will be available at launch or not.
