Microsoft’s Skype unit is very active these days, mostly because of the company’s decision to discontinue the Windows Phone and Symbian versions, but also thanks to the fact that new updates are in the pipeline for modern Windows.

Today, Skype for Windows 8 has received a new update that comes with options to edit or delete messages you have just sent, but also with notifications and improved accessibility for video messages.

As you most likely know if you’re a Skype fan, video messages have only recently been introduced in the Windows 8 port of the app, so notifications are really important for those who use the app on a daily basis.

The feature lineup of the app remains unchanged and includes options to make group video calls and audio calls at no cost, send video messages to contacts, talk to friends via instant messaging, send files and photos, and connect with users on a wide array of platforms, including Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Xbox, and Mac OS X.

Of course, the Metro version of Skype is updated through the store, but as it usually happens with such releases, it could take a while until the new version becomes available for you.

As a result, you could also try downloading Skype for Windows 8 manually to get the aforementioned improvements on your PC right now.
