An update for Skype is waiting for your download in the Store

Microsoft has rolled out update for many Windows 8.1 Modern apps, including the popular Skype that’s now the default messaging client for the new operating system.

The new version is currently delivered to users via the integrated store, so in case you haven’t modified the default settings, you might be already running the latest build of Skype, as apps are automatically installed on Windows 8.1.

According to the official release notes published in the store, the new Skype version comes with general fixes and performance improvements, which means that all users should deploy the update as soon as possible.
