Microsoft-owned Skype has just announced it has released new updates for its Android and iOS applications. The new versions of these apps will be rolled out in Google Play Store and App Store over the next couple of weeks.

Skype for Android got the most improvements while the iOS version only received some additional language support. According to the developer, within the coming week, they will add Croatian, Slovak, Catalan, Vietnamese, Thai, Hindi, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Malay, Turkish, and Estonian.

As mentioned earlier, the Android version of Skype picked up a major that brings important new features and improvements. For example, developers have added support for emoji.

Also, when users choose one of Skype's emoticons, a new feature will kick in that will display a large animated version if the emoticon's the only thing sent in a message.

New features and lots of improvements

Another new feature included in this update is the addition of support messaging via speech to text when connected to an Android Auto experience. Here are the first of the improvements mentioned by Microsoft:

- Catching up on an active conversation is now easier; chat will no longer auto-scroll to the latest as new messages come in; - Now you can change and view avatars for all of your group chats; just use the “Participants” option in a group chat to get started; - After signing out, you will now need to re-enter user name and password to sign in again. This will make it easier on those of you who use multiple accounts.

You can now download Skype for Android 5.3 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up. On the other hand, Skype for iPhone 5.12 is now available for download for free via App Store.
