A new flavor of the highly popular Skype for Android application is now available for download for the users of Google's mobile operating system, namely version 1.0.2, with a nice range of enhancements included into the mix. According to Skype, one of the most important changes in the application would be the possibility to save Skype for Android to an SD card (with Android OS 2.2). Moreover, the software solution now offers support for Samsung Galaxy S devices running under Froyo.

The new version of the application was made available for download via the Android Market. Users would also find it available at skype.com/m.

“It is now possible to save Skype for Android on your SD Card, however whilst the application is stored on your SD Card, the Skype data while you use the application is still stored on the internal memory of your handset,” the company notes on its blog.

“The data storage on your phone depends on your account activities, and we expect it to be around 15MB for normal users. This feature works only with Android OS 2.2.”

There is also the support for Galaxy S devices based on the latest version of Google's Android operating system, but no other improvements are included in the release notes.

However, the list of known issues with the new release is pretty long, and includes both problems that would affect only certain devices, as well as other issues, which would affect all Android phones.

It should be noted that Galaxy S users who are still running the Android 2.1 operating system version are advised to stay away from installing Skype 1.0.2 for Android on their handsets.

The application offers Android users the possibility to make free Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi or 3G, while benefiting from great savings when making phone calls abroad. The service also includes free IM features.
