Stability improvements for Lollipop have been added too

Skype for Android hasn't been updated in quite a while, but the same goes for the iOS and Windows Phone versions. Still, it looks like Microsoft has finally found the time to push a new version of Skype in Google Play Store.

The latest update brings a handful of improvements and tweaks related to IM (instant messaging) functionality, but no new features. It's also worth mentioning that the update is only available for Android devices, so iOS and Windows Phone users shouldn't check for the update because there isn't one.

First and foremost, the Skype team has added a typing indicator, so users can see when someone is typing. This feature is already available in most other instant messengers, including WhatsApp and BBM.

Next in line is another enhancement for Skype's IM. It looks like the avatar picture now follows as users scroll to read longer messages. Also, file type icons for shared Office documents have been implemented too.

You can now send feedback directly from within the app

Another interesting improvement is the option to send feedback directly from the app by heading to Settings menu. Last but not least, some stability improvements for those running Android 5.0 Lollipop on their devices have been added as well.

There are all the changes confirmed by Skype for this version, but we expect Microsoft to step up their game a bit and release updates more often. Stay tuned for more on this one.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download Skype for Android 5.4 for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.

Keep in mind that operator data charges may apply, so it's recommended to use an unlimited data plan or Wi-Fi connection when making calls via Skype.
