Skype, the popular VoIP messaging application, has recently reached an important milestone on Google’s Android operating system, with over 100 million users already downloading and installing it on their devices.

To celebrate the event, Skype also announced a new iteration of their Android application, now available for download as version 4.0, with a nice range of enhancements packed inside.

The new flavor of the software was redesigned based on the looks that the Windows Phone 8 variant of Skype arrived on devices with last year, the company announced.

“Our focus was simple: we wanted to deliver an app that makes your interactions easier and puts conversations first. Our Android team saw this great work and wanted to deliver an equally bold, beautiful, and modern design in this latest Skype for Android release,” Skype notes in a blog post.

In addition to receiving a brand new user interface, Skype for Android also got faster than before, as well as easier to use, especially when it comes to quick replies.

“Everything is at your fingertips. As soon as you open the app, you’ll notice the clean new look listing your recent conversations – just tap on one to catch up and reply,” Skype explains.

“When you tap or swipe over to the Contacts or Favorites tabs, tapping on a person brings you right into a messaging window so you can start a conversation. And from there video calls, voice calls and everything else are just one tap away.”

The new Skype for Android 4.0 has been rebuilt from ground-up with all the features and capabilities that users would like to enjoy when firing it up, and with performance improvements and extra reliability.

Apparently, some other changes are also set to become available for the owners of Android-based devices in the coming months, as Skype is focused on making its mobile client more reliable than before, and more mobile-friendly.

The new Skype for Android 4.0 app flavor should become available for download through the Google Play store for all users. However, some of you might not see it available right away.
