The site is still in private beta, but it will be available in the UK, US and other places

The video streaming space is about to get a little more crowded with the upcoming launch of Vdio, a video site from some of the people that brought you Skype, Kazaa, Rdio and Joost.

The site has been in the works for the past couple of years and is currently in private beta, but was uncovered by GigaOM, who did a little bit of snooping around.

The team later confirmed what the site is about and that it is linked to Rdio. Vdio was founded by Janus Friis, one half of the duo that created all of those services listed above.

It is currently in private beta and is in testing with a few people. When it will be ready, it will be a video streaming site, focusing on TV shows and movies, launching in the UK initially, but later in the US and probably other places.

While pricing has not been revealed, it will probably be a flat-rate subscription service, meaning that it will compete with Netflix and the European LoveFilm, rather than with iTunes or Amazon's download service.

The site is live, but it's bare-bones at the moment, just a logo and a series of animated images with screenshots from A-list movies and popular TV shows. From what's been gathered, Vdio will feature content from the likes of Warner Bros., AMC, Showtime, Sony and Fox.

That said, no licensing agreement has been confirmed and things may change before launch. There's a "Login via Facebook" button, but you'll get a notification that the service is only available in the UK if you try it, unless, of course, you are in the UK, in which case it's "coming soon."

There's no way to know how Vdio will fare, but judging from the possible content selection alone, it may prove rather popular. The key to any video streaming site is its catalog.
