The Modern version of Skype which is exclusively available to Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users has received a new update today, so in case you’re running it already, make sure you download the fresh build as soon as possible.

According to the official release notes published in the store, this new version of Skype comes with improvements that will cause the app to stop ringing when you answer a call somewhere else, which means that the experience of using Skype on multiple Windows 8 devices at the same time should be greatly enhanced.

The Metro version of Skype has been designed to work on both desktop computers and tablets, so it comes with an interface that’s completely optimized for the touch.

Skype for Windows 8.1 is now the default messaging client in Microsoft’s modern operating system, replacing the traditional Messaging app that was offered in Windows 8. Of course, it’s offered for free to all users, but users of Windows 8.1 version without Skype can also download it from the store.

In default configuration, the Windows Store automatically gets app updates when they are released, so the update might already be there on your computer, but you can also download Skype for Windows 8.1 manually to see what’s new.

Update: Microsoft has finally provided more info on what's new in Skype 2.6 for Modern Windows.
