The hardware and software business development chief from Skype, the company behind the very well known peer-to-peer VoIP network, have declared they believe a mobile phone version of this Internet telephone service isn't yet suited for a launch due to high carrier charges.

Even if they have recently released a version of their popular Skype program on a Nokia handset working on 3's third generation wireless broadband network, they still state the anticipation for a version of the program going to work on all mobile phones across the globe isn't going to get any confirmation mainly because the 3 operator is just a very rare case of a mobile phone carrier that gives access to its customers to its really fast broadband network at very low prices.

What do they get and how much do they pay? For approximately £5 paid per month, every 3 user will have unlimited Skype calls, podcasts, Windows Live Messenger and Internet access. All plain unlimited.

What is the reason for Skype not being implemented on cellphones? Because as far as now, there are very, very few cheap data plans offered by the mobile carriers across the world and this even if Skype virtually eliminates the telephony network out of the call equation using broadband Internet connectivity which should be quite inexpensive.

Skype uses a broadband Internet connection to place a voice call, cutting out the telephony network for which telecoms operators charge by the minute. Skype calls to other broadband-connected Skype users are free, and Skype calls to normal phones are inexpensive. But this doesn't really happen because most of the carriers charge their users a lot of money for every megabyte of data sent and received by one's phone.

As Eric Lagier has declared at CES "We don't want to be in a situation where we say: 'Skype is free' and then at the end of the month the user gets this huge broadband bill".
