Skype, an application which belongs to eBay at the time being, has launched today a new version, that incorporates new features for users and represents a sign of the company's involvement in audio/video content distribution.
By introducing the Skype Personalise function, the 55 million
users will be able to download ringtones, images and sounds to personalize the appearance of their application.
Aside from these, users will be able to download avatars and images, which will be available in the program.
The service is offered together with QPass, a company that provides similar services to cell phone operators. For Skype, this is the first time when they get involved in content distribution. Providing ringtones and images for cell phone personalization represents a $5 billion business and most operators offer such services.
The Skype officials said they are willing to distribute other type of content if someone comes with an interesting offer.
Aside from Skype Personalise, the new version of the application also introduces the full version of the Skype Forward service, through which users can redirect the Skype calls to cell phones and classic phones.
