The famous communication tool Skype was yesterday affected by a serious problem concerning the login technology which caused one of the most impressive downtimes ever recorded by the software solution. Although the Skype team managed to identify the problem quite quickly they also admitted that it might take up to 24 hours until they manage to fix it. Until now, Skype was quite a stable product if we avoid talking about short-term downtimes but this one was quite serious although the representatives didn't mention a thing about it. While the service was offline, Skype was continuously trying to reconnect and sometimes it managed to do it but it was quickly disconnected due to the problems.

"Some of you may be having problems logging into Skype. Our engineering team has determined that it's a software issue. We expect this to be resolved within 12 to 24 hours. Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience. Additionally, downloads of Skype have been temporarily disabled. We will make downloads available again as quickly as possible," the Skype team wrote on the official product of the company.

However, the reason for the outage was not clear since the Skype team members first announced that it was only a peer-to-peer network problem and then described it as a login conflict. According to The Small Business Blog, the Skype team first announced that the login engine is affected by a peer-to-peer error which caused the application to go offline and refuse any connection.

"Due to Peer-to-Peer network issues there are problems with Skype login. This issue is being investigated. We will give new updates when the issue has been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience," the Skype team first said according to the same source.
