Microsoft could soon make Skype group video calling completely free, as the company sees increasing competition from Google, which already offers such a feature free of charge via Hangouts.

TechRadar is reporting that Microsoft hinted that group video calling could soon be available to all users at no cost, as Redmond is now pondering such an update.

“It’s something we’re looking into,” a Skype spokesperson was quoted as saying, while also adding that the Premium service continues to perform very well at this point.

Skype’s Premium goodies are available from $4 (€3.49) a month, with Microsoft offering not only group video calls, but also unlimited calls to a country or region of your choice. A premium license also brings group screen sharing, no advertising, and alive chat customer support for all users.
